2010 Bourgeois: Jeff Malan
My name is Jeff Malan, your 2010 Bourgeois for the Fort Bridger Rendezvous. I am from Eden Utah and have lived here all my life. I have been married to my wife Sherry for 30 years and we have raised three children who are all grown and married. We love the Fort Bridger rendezvous and I am honored to be the Bourgeois for this the 38th annual rendezvous.
I stand in a long line of Bourgeois who have worked hard to see that this rendezvous continues. I am grateful for those past Bourgeois and the legacy that they have left us. The Bridger valley is full of history and beauty and good people, the Fort Bridger Rendezvous association is dedicated to preserving this history and beauty and we thank the good people of the valley for their hospitality.
If you are interested in the ways of the mountain man and the life they lived, come join us on Labor day weekend for a weekend full of fun and enjoyment. My Segundo, Kash Johnson and I along with the FBRA board invite you to attend one of the greatest rendezvous held in the Rocky Mountains.

Howdy folks:
This will be my second time around as your Segundo. “Must be out of his mind” you say or “must be gluten for punishment”.
I prefer to think of my self as a dedicated Rendezvous’er trying my best to maintain the integrity of our event. The problem I see is to blend a sense of history with the perception of those participate as well as those who’s only interest is the spectacle of what we do.
I have been involved in rendezvous sense 1982, when I met up with a “Mountain man” by the name of Two Eagles. To make a long story short he completely changed my mind about what it’s all about. Up until then when I saw a guy all dressed up in buckskin I thought to my self “what’s he try’n to prove” after all I can shoot black powder, I hunt, I fish, I trap, I am an out doorsey kinda guy and I don’t have to dress up to do any of those things. It’s not about those things it’s about the history. Ok so I failed history in school
(Don’t tell anyone might be a hard thing to live down.)
Sadly rendezvous have become such a loose interpretation of what might have been, the general public sees rendezvous as a place to buy soveniers mostly made in China kinda like Wall Mart only with a western theme. Its hard to tell the difference in the eras being portrayed, such as Cowboys, Pioneers, Buffalo hunters, Reservation era Native American, and Civil War re-enactors just to mention a few. This is what we as aboard of director have guarded against. This is also what I mean when I say protecting the integrity of rendezvous.
I’m not going to say we have it perfect because we don’t. But we are working on it.
If you have been visiting the event in years past my hope is that you will continue to do so. If you haven’t been for a few years come and check us out. If you are new to all this, why not give it a try, I’m thinking you will be hooked as I was.
Kash Johnson
